5Awesome!
By snivilous
Great system all around! I was upgrading from a single DIN Pioneer to this, so I already had the aftermarket hardware to install, and it fit right into my 2001 4Runner with no issue. The manual and instructions were fine and explained all the wiring and where it goes. This was my first install of a radio and first radio with lots of functions and a touchscreen. This was a GREAT purchase and a great deal for the price in my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again. There are a few small annoyances that come with the touchscreen/bluetooth, but that is the nature of the beast and are hardly worth noting.Pros:I was looking for a nice touchscreen that had a volume knob, and this fit the bill. The screen is excellent with no issues, and the volume knob is a good size with a rubber o-ring on it to grip easily. The screen can also be turned off by holding down the menu button which is nice for driving at night. I have not used the DVD/CD player yet, as I play everything through my iPhone. Another nice feature is my retractable antenna works with the system, and rolls up/down depending on if the radio is on and not the unit as a whole (my previous would always roll the antenna up no matter what). The bluetooth works great and nice to not have to manually plug in devices.Cons (nothing major, just small annoyances/trouble shooting, wouldn't stop me from buying):-Switching songs and manually browsing stations is a little tricky because the buttons are on the screen. They are easy to press, but it's certainly harder than a tuning knob or large physical buttons to change.-Bluetooth works great on my phone. It does take about 5-8 seconds for it to engage fully, in that time the music only half goes through it seems and has static. Once fully connected it works flawlessly.-Changing songs via bluetooth takes a second or two, which is understandable since it's wireless.-Connecting/disconnecting phones/devices can be tricky. Often my friends and I switch to others iPhones for music. It appears you have to disconnect the first device, then the connect menu will come up. Don't connect at this point, go back to the system menu and manually go to connect to properly connect, otherwise it doesn't seem to change over consistently.-I had the power antenna stop rolling up/down if I switched from the tuner to bluetooth or vice versa. Unplugging the battery/resetting the unit fixed it though.

3Mediocre at best.
By T. Davies
Short review for those with attention deficit disorder:Is the Eclipse AVN7000 worth two thousand dollars? Nope. Look elsewhere. There are a lot better ways to spend two grand.Longer review:Well, I purchased an Eclipse AVN7000 a couple days ago. I was very excited to get it installed in my new car. My options were limited, since I only had one DIN space to work with. So I chose the "top-of-the-line" AVN7000. Was it worth it? Nope. Why, you ask? Well, I was expecting a feature rich, easy to use, well thought out and designed unit with all of the bells and whistles. What you get is another product that was rushed out the door, and forgotten about by the manufacturer. The interface of this unit is clunky at best. There are very few buttons on the face of the unit - 10 buttons and a knob/button. That keeps it simple, but they managed to add several more on the touch screen itself - making me wonder why they put buttons on the face of the unit...?The Nav button on the face only has one purpose: to jump you from wherever you are to the nav screen. While that is handy, I fail to see why it can't do something else while you're in Nav mode. The Menu button takes you to an on-screen menu that is cryptic and poorly organized, and mostly to do with nav functions, NOT anything else. (I guess Fujitsu / Eclipse didn't really want you to use it as a stereo.)The Display button controls the day/night dimming of the screen, or will turn the screen off altogether. Why you would want to turn it off I don't know, just close it! If you do turn it off, you'll wreck your car trying to figure out how to get it back on. You have to press the Nav button! Yeah, that's intuitive! Why not the Display button?!?The Dest button brings up a menu of destination and Points of Interest (POI's). The menu looks easy to use, but is actually confusing. Just try to get it to show you the nearest gas station, and you'll know what I mean. You better pull over, because you're gonna be reading and "clicking" a lot to get it.The Open/Close button controls the screen's tilt and will close the screen. Oddly, this button takes you to a menu where you can adjust tilt or close the screen. Am I the only person who thought you should just be able to tap the button and close the display? Nope, you have to hold it in for a second or two for the display to close. The << and >> buttons do the normal backward track and forward track skipping, like on most stereos. (Finally something standard!)The ^ button ejects the CD or DVD you have inserted. The volume knob is also a button, and it brings up a menu of all of the different options you have installed, such as CD, MP3 CD, DVD Movie, Rear View Camera, Side View Camera, etc. And you can easily switch between the functions. The volume knob can also be used to scroll through the functions when the display is closed. An odd abreviation of the function will appear on the stereo's mini display (not the big screen) when the screen is closed. The abbreviations are odd. CMP for an MP3 disc.Sidetrack:Who made that up? Why wouldn't you just use MP3? or even MP3 CD, the display has enough characters! I know that's nit-picky, but these are the things about this unit that just don't "sit right", and it's a good example of how the unit lacks "polish". These kinds of things could be easily avoided if the manufacturer had done some honest end-user trials with the unit before releasing it.Back on track:A power button is also available on the front, which works just as you would expect, it turns the audio portion off, but leaves the nav unit running and the display out and on.One of my pet peeves about the unit is that the menus are not organized in any logical way. I know that sounds picky, but when I'm cruising down the highway at 70 mph, I don't need to be distracted pressing buttons, surfing menus, trying to find the option I'm looking for. There should be ONE menu button that takes you to a short menu of options, subdivided by category: nav, audio, configuration, etc. Then sub-menus as necessary. The current menus seemed to be organized from a designer's standpoint, and I'm sure they made perfect sense to the Fujitsu engineers. But we're not Fujitsu engineers. We're users. Make the menus make sense to normal people that just walked up to the device.A word about the manual:The manual that comes with the head unit is abyssmal. Yes, it tells you how to set a destination. How to switch between your audio CD and your memory stick (I'll get to the memory stick in a moment). But it doesn't answer ANY technical questions. You're left to trial and error and fudging your way through. Such as: The unit will read MP3 files from a CD-ROM or a memory stick. It also plays DVD movies. So why wouldn't it read DVD-ROM's with MP3's on them? Well, it doesn't. How hard would that be Fujitsu? Come on!While surfing through the menus you'll notice that you can change the background image (wallpaper) or have it play an animation in the background - behind the menus. No where in the manual does it tell you HOW!You'll also see in the menu's that you can configure the audio of the head unit. There are various controls, such as one that you set the type of vehicle it is in. The manual gives NO explanation of what this really means. A couple of the choices are: Compact and Small. What's the difference? We'll never know! There's a section in the sound setup where you can set the crossover functions and speaker setup for your vehicle. There is NO explanation whatsoever in the manual of these functions. What choices should you make? What do the options really mean? Who knows!?!Conclusion:Overall, the MOST disappointing thing about this unit is the features that it is LACKING and that you would be expecting to have. Such as readily available and FREE nav data updates. After all, you're paying a premium price for this unit, it is insulting to charge for the updates. Well, there aren't ANY updates for this unit!! The data in the unit is from 2005, and there are no updates available!! The updates for other similar Eclipse units cost about three hundred dollars!!! Can you believe it! You can buy a LOT of copies of Microsoft Streets & Trips for that! The nav data is also lacking in another horrible way. Some areas of the country only have "partial" data. You can see the streets and intersections on the map, but the computer can't navigate you in these areas. It just tells you the equivalent of "sorry, no data, too bad for you". Fortunately, the GPS still places you in the correct place on the map, it just can't tell you to "turn here" or route you around one-way streets or anything like that. To make that situation worse, there's NO WAY to tell an area with full data from an area with partial data!! You would think that it would be a different color or something. Another nice "feature" from Fujitsu. Thanks fellas! On a personal note, I live smack-dap in the center of one of those partial data areas! So the device can't even navigate me to my own home! Of course, I know where I live, but it's just that more aggravating that a unit that costs this much does so little.I mentioned Memory Sticks above. The unit will read Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo's (the MagicGate variety only) and ONLY the 128Mb or smaller! What!?! Yes, I said 128Mb or smaller. OK Fujitsu, what's that all about? Why Sony Memory Sticks? Why not the ubiquitous SD memory cards? Or even Compact Flash? Why the most expensive flash memory available? Why only 128Mb? What am I gonna do with that? My WATCH has more memory than that!! Ugh.Well, I'm sure there are several other things I could complain about with this unit. I just hope I save at least ONE person from wasting there money on this clunky out-dated over-priced turd.

4Best overhead DVD player for any vehicle
By the redhead mom
We have tried out MANY overhead DVD players for our Toyota Sienna. Most don't work upon arrival or had problems immediately or shortly after hooking them up. The initial DVD player we purchased of this brand actually died for some reason about 3 weeks after we got it. We opted to exchange, and have had very few problems. Customer service was great. Many of the overhead players we have tried had problems syncing the volume with our sound system (the standard system that came with the car). This one has been awesome. The IR (or cordless) headphones work great as well. The picture is nice and the player itself is sturdy with good hinges that keep the screen in place instead of wobbling when you hit bumps. Every now and again the player will skip to random spots in whatever movie is playing...but that could be attributed to many things. Overall the best we have found. Highly recommend.

3It is ok, for under $300
By ral68
Picture quality is ok, but during the day, it is not quite bright enough.Install is not that easy. Screws connecting to the base plate are so short, that you have to prepare for some alternative tricks.I had to buy longer ones, but I had plenty of room between the plate and the ceiling.Could not get USB to work. SD works, but only standard SD cards (not SDHC). Plays great from standard SD cards.Couple of things to consider. The video out, is on the outside, so if you consider hooking it up to your stereo, you might be in for a surprise, since it requires a visable cable, plugged in on the outside of the unit to make this work.Since this was not an option (I did not want to seen any wires), I decided to open the unit (and void warranty...) and solder the cables directly on the inside. The biggest surprise is that my video in to the unit works great, but then the sound does not get transfered to the output. In other words, I hooked up my ipod video and the picture showed, but the sound did not transfer to my stereo.Had to rewired directly to my car stereo to avoid this problem. On other thing not mentioned in any report so far. The unit does NOT have speakers onboard. You do need to use IR headsets (very good solution), or use the build in RF transmitter (never a good option in my opinion). Both of the options (IR/RF) do transfer the sound of the input as well!It might all sound negative, but the unit is really great afte a week of usage. My daughter loves it and the size, makes it a great buy for under $300.

1Don't expect map updates from JVC or NAVTEQ
By Daniel C. Noel
I really like this unit overall. The Bluetooth integration, bright display, audio quality and user interface are all top-notch.This unit gets a 1 star from me for shipping with old maps (at least 2-3 years old when I got mine), and what's worse, no available updates. JVC tells me to check with Navteq, Navteq tells me to check with JVC. I'm pretty sure they are *never* going to release an update. What earthly good is a GPS without current maps? This is my last JVC product. Fool me once...

5Everything I wanted
By E. Gonzalez
When I was looking I had a few items that were important to me. I wanted good sound, bluetooth music streaming as well as hands-free with an external mic, a subwoofer connection, the ability to use it on the road without worrying about complex menus, and the ability to easily switch back and forth from my wife's phone to mine. After checking out reviews, user manuals, and playing with a few models in-store this guy won handily.I've been nothing but happy with it so far. We can switch easily between phones, it displays our names and all we have to do is click on the phone we want to use. The GPS works great, the sound is lovely, and the UI is snappy. We tested several units in the store that were sluggish, but this guy responded quickly to all our button presses. A responsive UI is a requirement for me, I want to spend as little time thinking about my radio as possible while I'm driving.Something I found neat, is that when I hook the iPhone up via USB, album art work displays on the screen. While that is no where near a necessity, it is a neat little feature. Using the iPhone from the receive isn't bad. I have tons of music (over 30GB on an iPhone 4S) and I have had no problem finding an album and getting it to play. It isn't as smooth and lovely as navigating the iPhone directly, but it gets the job done without too much fuss.Oh, another fun feature is that with the right cable, you can display movies on the screen from your iPhone. This is a feature I tested to make sure it works, but I am almost never sitting around in the car long enough for this to be useful.

5You can't beat this radio
By W. Johnson
I have used this JVC radio for 3 months now and I really like the features. I got the IPOD cable and a backup camera to use with this radio. I have been happy with the functions of the radio and after getting use to the GPS, I have found it to be as acurrate as the Garmin I have used for years. There are a few things I would like the GPS to do that I think a software update would fix, 1 is to have the speed limit of my vehicle displayed, 2 is to have the GPS work automatically with time zones when trips arrival times and the system time is set. The GPS system knows this data, so why not display it on the screen. Once I got familiar with the menus it is fairly easy to move between functions, but it does take a little time to get through the screens because there are so many features. The back up camera I purchased failed within 3 days, but the camera manf. replaced it with no problem. The radio installed fairly easy in my 2007 Ford Fusion, however the GPS link cable barely made it to the rear trunk lid. It can be mounted in other places but I wanted it outside the car and out of sight as much as possible. The radio HD stations do not seem to work as great as far as the reception as the factory radio. When I do an auto-tune I get the strongest 5 stations and sometimes not 5. I read that the radio has to be grounded well and I have not verified this yet. Overall I like the purchase of the radio, the sound is great.
