4The best dash cam you can get for $200
By SoonerFam
After a couple of close calls on the highway and a bogus ticket from the local PD (which I defeated in trial), I decided to get a dash cam. Weeks of research led me to the Itronics ITB-100HD and I couldn't wait to get it. Something came up and I couldn't get it right away, so imagine my disappointment when I went to purchase it and the price had gone up from $179 to $250! So, me being the frugal feller that I am, I kept looking and found the Vacron CDR E-22.Rather than continuing to narrate, I'll summarize the pros and cons of this dash cam:Pros: - Its black, making it blend in with the tinted portion of the windshield. - Two mounting options: adhesive or suction cups. The suction cups are more than sufficient. - Quick and easy to install/uninstall. Just slide it/up down and you're good to go. - Power-up is relatively fast. Some "fancier" cams take a minute or so to boot, which means its not recording the whole time you're driving. Not cool. The Vacron takes maybe 30 seconds. - The included power cable is more than long enough to do a hidden install. - I initially scoffed at it, but the remote is a nice feature to have since it can be a bit of a chore to get to the thing once installed behind the rearview mirror. - Tons of options, including video quality and G-sensor settings. - SD card slot is easy to get to. - Great temperature durability, -20 to 130 F. I have no doubt this will be tested by the Texas sun. - Auto record function makes this thing a "set and forget" device. I forget its there most times. - One touch to disable the display. - Good price point at $199. Any higher would be a dealbreaker. - Fully functional built-in GPS, not just a logger like many other cams out there. - The audio recording is sufficient. You can hear music and conversations and while a bit muted, it still gets the job done.Cons: - No "permanent" wiring option to free up my cigarette lighter for something else. This is the main drawback of the Vacron CDR E-22 over the Itronics ITB-100HD. The Vacron needs a 5V power supply and uses a standard mini USB connector, so I'm sure I could work something up if I wanted to do some tinkering, but still. It would be nice if they offered this option since some of us have multiple devices running in the car, not to mention that not all cigarette lighters are in feasible places for running permanent wires (see: my wife's car). - Since there's no permanent wiring option, there's no chance of a "parking mode", which the Itronics also has. You're only getting the benefit of this cam while the car is on/driving. - There's no option to leave the LCD display off permanently. I have to turn it off each time I get in the car at night. Its not a dealbreaker, but this should be an option for future upgrades. - I haven't found an option to change the recording interval for video. I did find one for taking time-lapse images, but that's it. It records in one minute intervals only and makes reviewing the video a somewhat tedious process if you need to look at more than one or two.ABOUT THE VIDEO QUALITY: I wanted to rate this separately since its one of the most important aspects of a dash cam. - The 720p/60FPS option is amazing. Motion is silky smooth, allowing you to see every action with no stuttering. If they can ever get a 1080p/60FPS option, this cam will blow everything away. The main problem with the 720 setting is that the clarity just isn't there. I drove with it in 720/60 mode for a week or so, but ultimately decided to switch to 1080/30FPS mode instead, which I will explain below.- The 1080p claim is a bit misleading. While the 1080p video is definitely more clear than 720, its a very low quality, heavily compressed 1080p, which means you can see a ton of graininess and pixellation in the images. I understand that it has to be compressed to save space, but it was still underwhelming to say the least. That being said, the clarity of things like street signs and license plates at a fair distance is excellent, making this great for a dash cam.- The overall quality of this dash cam is excellent when you consider its price and features. I'm especially impressed with how it handles bright lights. Many (see: most) cameras are unable to handle very bright lights, causing them to basically shut down most of the image until the light is gone. The Vacron does suffer from this a little when it comes to sunlight, but handles it very well, still allowing you to see what else is going on. So, driving into the sun isn't as big of a problem as it would be with other cams.- The night quality is excellent as well. I drive on some pretty dark roads in the mornings and this cam sees everything that I can see with my headlights. Another area that other cams suffer in.OVERALL, this is a great dash cam with a lot of features and good video quality. Considering how many other more expensive cams don't have many of these features, this one is hard to beat.

5Great car camera
By W. Turechek
The camera arrived on time and well packed. It was easy to install with just a brief glance at the installation instructions. I set it up in a few minutes and tried it right away. The picture quality was very good for me, I'm not an expert. I installed the program from the CD on my computer and viewed the initial movies with the program. The program is easy to use and does a super job showing the video, speed, and even mapping the route. I tried it at night the same day and I was very impressed with the quality of the night time movies. The only thing that would have made this better is if there were a permanent installation method or a rechargeable battery. I am glad that I didn't purchase one of the lower priced units because this one has great quality output.
