By darr
I purchased this unit because the VT800B installed in my Expedition failed after ~2yrs. It should have lasted longer but to avoid further installation costs, I chose to go w/ the upgraded version. The wiring and mounting is identical (just 3 connectors) so it replaced by old quickly - just 4 main screws. The new unit has some nice perks over the old.First, the addition of the USB is nice. I was able to get MP4 files (320x240 - 768 frame rate) running from an 8GB USB thumb drive easily.NOTE: The USB drive is enabled in DVD player mode by an extended button press. It stays in this mode while going thru input modes (AV1, AV2, ...) but returns to DVD when the car is turned off and back on.Second, the volume output by the unit is louder (or at least appears to be). This is a huge plus as playing DVDs on the older unit required the car stereo be turned up excessively (via an installed modulator). This is a very solid unit which is part of the reason I bought the earlier model. The new model uses a newer DVD drive internally. Other than that, I'm not sure what other parts are new/different. I rate it 4 stars as the old one bit the dust before it should have. If it lasts, it's a solid 5.

So far I have had this product for about a month, the item as overall easy to install myself into a Nissan Serena as my family and I are in Japan supporting U.S. Forces. My family and I have taken several trips with the overhead DVD player, the player has operated as states in the product description with no issues. The picture is clear and no problems at all with skipping.I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a quality picture and a great running dvd player to keep the family entertained on long trips.
