2Disappointed with VOD10PS2
By M. Schrage
We have only had it installed for a week, but I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed now that I have actually used it. I think it would be better for older kids who could open and close it and operate it through the menus by themselves, but not so much for young kids. It is not front seat friendly. I had it professionally installed, which cost $300 although I had them direct wire the sound to my AUX port on the stereo and they added extra metal bracing from the included base plate to the roof to hold this thing up. I have a 2011 honda odyssey with sunroof. It does sound good through the van's sound system and I think the extra bracing was a good idea because the headliner in our van behind the sunroof had a lot of flex to it.Pros: The ps2 and the included remotes work well. I put in my old ps2 memory card and my favorite game SSX tricky and it was all good. I could have sat back there for a couple hours without whining. :) I picked this unit because of the ps2. I think that will keep kids attention longer than just movies, and on those long car trips we need all we can get.Cons: 1) The biggest problem is when you turn off the car the PS2 turns off - as it should so you don't drain your battery, but... Hope the kids saved their game or they will FREAK OUT when you turn off the car. Now when you turn the car back on you have to re-open the ps2 to turn it on which resets it and you have to do the start-up all over again. This is a major bummer while watching a movie. It does not keep your place in a movie, so now you have to go through all the dvd previews and menu again, then chapter preview to find your place back in the movie. Major downfall.2) The remote control works, but you have to have it pointed directly at the front of the unit where the receiver is by the buttons - as in from the back seat position. And not even holding the remote in your lap, it has to be raised up and pointing right at the receiver. You cannot control the unit at all from the front seat positions.3) Also, the screen resolution is not very good. I knew it was 800x480 when I ordered it, but I guess I expected that to look better than it does. Smaller wording on the menus can be hard to read. The color and contrast are not so great. Of couse, the kids probably won't notice or care, but in this day and age of high tech screens at low costs I expected better. In summary, if you had kids old enough to get in and out of their seatbelts by themselves and can read and navigate the menus with the remote this wouldn't be so bad. However my kids are all under age 5 and still in carseats so they can't operate it by themselves. It is not easy for parents to set up because we have to crawl into the back seat to get everything set up each time we turn off the power again. I would return it for a more user friendly system, but it's already custom installed in my vehicle.

2Good for LONG trips, not every day use
By Melanie Trevino
We bought this as a replacement to an Advent DVD system, that was warrantied out 3 times, and then failed again. I thought it would be a good replacement, since the other system had an "Atari" type game system built in, and the kids enjoyed that when they were bored of videos. After installing it, I quickly grew to hate how incredibly inconvenient it is. There isn't a side DVD slot, which is fine if the next complaint weren't true. This unit has NO MEMORY FEATURE....which means that every time you stop the car to go into a store or leave home, you have to start the DVD all over again. VERY VERY VERY frustrating as a parent of little ones. The remote only works on a limited angle, no where near from the front (our old DVD player had a front IR sensor, so parents could navigate through the menus). So, the kids get to watch the same 15 minutes of the same movie every day unless I fast forward through the chapters in the back after buckling them in....because once your car turns off, the system resets. If you have older kids, this probably wouldn't be as much of an issue, as they'll love being in charge of the system, but for my purpose and situation (little kids), it is a SUPER pain in the butt.PS2 games work well, no issues noted yet. This would be great on long car rides, but for every day use, I am greatly disappointed.I called Audiovox prior to posting this comment, just to make sure I wasn't missing something...but they confirmed that it does NOT have a memory function. I can't believe that their engineers didn't think about how that would impede the functionality of the unit for MOST of the families in this market. The failure to implement that tiny detail made this go from a 5 star RAVE review to a generous 2.Bad call, Audiovox....bad call.

4Love it!
By CDH7
We love it! We only use it on 2hr or longer drives and it works good. I installed it myself. I first had it wired up wrong and it shut off the player each time I turned off the van, then I selected another fuse and fixed that, but, now when I restart the van it turns off for a moment. Which is a pain.I did not wire up the lights, our Ford E-150 already has enough. The sound does come in great through the speakers. My one complaint is it seems to want to always go into PS2 mode no matter what we put in, then we have to restart it again until it realizes it is a dvd. Warning: we found out that playing role playing games while going through the mountains made one of our kids sick. OopsOther note, this works great when garage saling keeping the kids happy.
